My guess would be that it would date a bit later than the Occupied Japan days... the size would be right for the side button off of an army dress hat. We've had our hats made in many places. I was just inspecting the construction of a high-officer's hat I have, made in Taiwan during the Korean war years... the construction of the side buttons isn't quite the same as yours. Does the backing unscrew from the front? (I'm suspecting that the backing was originally sewn into the hat)

I think you're right nhbenz....this one on the left was usually front and center(screwed on) but believe the smaller one was definetley sewn on.....I mean how soon after did we start having trade agreement's with the Japenese....Can't be WWII for sure....Just don't know when....Thank's for the input!!
