Why is this thing made of silver? WHAT EVEN IS IT?

Found this yesterday and almost threw it into the trash pouch until i noticed the markings. Its definitely silver, and i think it was made in Birmingham england in 1909, based on the markings?? (I dont know anything about markings so i tried to look them up, any help on identifying them would be awesome)

Markings: Bottom row- Anchor, Lion, "K" Top- ? "B", (inside a diamond) "G"? "BB"

But does anyone have any idea on what the heck this thing is? It seems so insignificant to be marked as heavily as it is. Just so curious as to what this is.

I'm just guessing and there are others on this site that amaze me with their knowledge...Maybe a silver collar from a long broken piece of fancy glass, like a vase, or decanter??

Might be a pipe band. I found one last year that looks almost identical to your piece.
It looked huge lying flat but when I pulled it out it was razor thin. I verified that it was a pipe band and even tracked down the manufacturer and brand.

I'm really glad you posted this find, Gavin. I found one of those (not complete like yours) a couple of years ago. My research told me it might be a pipe band so I'm glad to see that others like Garrett424 are in agreement. Example pic below. Congrats on the silver! Yeah, when I saw mine in the hole I saw the mark staring up at me and thought it was a huge silver ring.I was surprised when it was a pipe band.
It's THE thinnest piece of silver I have ever dug. You can easily bend it with your fingers.



Looks pretty close to me.
It could possibly be from a cane or walking stick as well but I would bet it's some kind of decorative wrap for a wooden item.

Could be a collar for a wooden handled serving spoon. I bought one in a thrift store one time and the bowl was silver plated, but where the bowl joined the wood handle was a silver collar that was marked sterling
