why does every one say the coin rang up as 36?

All I can tell you is that with the MXT it has a screen that displays the vdi number along with a bar & a guess of what the signal is. For example if I get a vdi of 86 a full bar & the machine will say dime (if in coin mode) it is 99 percent of the time going to be a dime.

The whites prizm 3 has no Tone ID. The 4 does. With the prizm 3, a silver coin signal will repeat at the "penny" indicator. However, I dug a seated liberty that held strong on Half Dollar. You'll have to experiment with your machine and as you go along you'll become familiar on how certain targets react. For instance, Indian heads will signal at "screwcap" and jump to "penny" due to the zinc content in the coin. Large cents will consistently signal at "quarter". Buttons vary, but the majority of buttons I have dug with the prizm signal at "screwcap". wITH A machine that has tones mode...a silver coin will typically have a high pitch solid tone. You can surely tell once you've experienced the sound of a silver coin with a machine that has tones.

I dont know if your whites 3 has tone id but my dfx does a clad dime will sound much different then a silver dime its a higher pitch and it will show on the screen a +86 to a +89 a clad dime will show a +79 that sound a silver dime makes is almost like a chirp a clad will sound like a beep .Hope that helps Jim
