Why are there no hot weather head phones

Today in Yuma is was a nice 107 outside , I talked to Extractor over towards Vegas 105 there , sure sign summer in the desert is on its way . I've only been in the Hobby 2 years now but have noticed how equipment upgrades an machines have changed an theres allways something better coming out .But I have noticed as far as head phones go it seems theres nothing new ,no super whamadine head phones .

I myself Run a set of Gray Ghosts an a set of Nugget Busters , I noticed when looking for head phones the selection isn't very big an if you want a decent set of head phones your gonna die sweating to death .For those of us that live in a hot climate we need something better, I've only seen 1 set of head phones that are single ear phones . I know for me that either of the set of head phones I use after about 75-80 degrees out side they get hot an I sweat bad , sad part is it doesn't get any better the hotter it gets out .

So what do we do ? Who do we talk to an throw ideas at ? Why are there no warm weather head phones .I know you can go without but some of us allways wear em .

I know what you mean. It was a balmy 103 here yesterday. I used to use some RS wireless headphones until they gave out. They were perfect because the earphones were small and covered with some sort of foam material and the headband went around the back of my neck...No sweat at all and you could easily wear a hat to cover the old noggin. I hear they stopped making them though.

What I do in sunny Florida is put a bandanna on my head. Letting the bandanna hang over my ears. After replacing my ball cap I then put the phones over the cloth. It truly helps to eliminate that clammy feeling.

A lot of folks may say it looks weird, but it works for me.

Heck Ralph, That's a great idea! When I lived in FL., folks thought I was nuts to be "looking for buried treasure" anyway, so who cares what 'they" think!

I do the same thing, only the bandanna is built into my hat, it cover my neck to keep it from getting sunburned.....

You can use two knitted headbands or wrist bands (one around each earcup) and save your socks. That's the way we did with the old military issued headphones with the "dead" foam cushions. LOL The wrist bands I used provided a comfortable cushion for those phones, helped seal the cups to the ears / head, and absorbed any sweat.

First I would go with full body suit made of mylar and air conditioned myself ...
Second, how about a ten gallon hat or 4 foot sombrero, but barring that --

Find an electronics junkie in your area and have him/her make up a ball cap or military style brimmed hat with hang down extention band under the brim into holder for two small size speakers.

Now I have seen some of these things with flip down neck protector in fishing tackle store here in Houston, (but then again they have just about everything imaginable in that joint at sky-high prices).

You can roll your own by using 2 inch replacement speakers for transistor radios available at electronics stores for couple bucks each (8 ohm). Sometimes you can even get waterproof versions that have a plastic/rubberized voicecone.
On front use protective plastic plate from old can lid with holes drilled in center. For back cover to protect speaker, use snap on plastic top from spray can, drill small holes around edge at base and sew to material to hold contraption together.
-- OR -- For the electronics challenged, just tear apart lightweight headphones, and stitch speaker housings to the band.

And by the way, triple stitch the connecting cable to the material band to prevent pulling the wires out. And if you really want to ruggedize it, tie a loop or loose knot in the end of the cable and stitch that to the material band.

Of course you will look like you just stepped off the latest ship from Mars, so if anyone approaches you, just say, "Take Me To Your Leader".

I use Koss KTXPro-1 phones. They are very light, sit on the ears type, & have a thin headband. They are very inexpensive, rather highly rated, go loud & have an inline volume control. They do fall off when I bend down to dig if I don't take them off (pressure on head virtually zero).

More durable than the thin wires might make one guess. Lifetime warranty but I just buy new ones after they break (I'm accident prone) as paying shipping both ways or buying new ones is about the same. Just got my 3rd set from that huge site starting with A.

I do like some of the more creative ideas here as well. But as for now, I just don't go out when it's too hot. HH, George (MN)
