Might try cleaning it up better if possible. Could be a date or other inscription under rust. Also the keyhole cover might be close to where you found lock

Was found in a field at an old town site that went extinct in the early 1900s. I have found many unusual and cool artifacts from this site.If you could give us some info on where you found it... what part of the country, on a homesite, in a field or a stream? The corrosion looks to be caused by something similar to animal urine?
I'm thinking electrolysis or tumbling would clean that lock up nicely.

The reason I asked is because it maybe have been a locally made lock by a company in your area, or possibly even in Missouri.
I've found quite a few of these types of padlocks on early settlement sites here in Southern Ontario, but mine were primarily made in the UK.
