I found this while out MD'ing my favorite abandoned campsite. Its VERY HEAVY! I cant see any markings and was hoping someone has an idea as to what I have here. Thanks and Happy Hunting! IMG_1658.JPGIMG_1662.JPGIMG_1661.JPGIMG_1664.JPG

bryan may have it...but an alternative would be parlor stove top...stove top 1.jpg....stove top 2.jpg...stove top 3.jpg

Both great answers. I had found what I though to be a stove leg the other day on the same site so maybe it is part of a parlor stove. It seem too heavy to be part of anything electrical

Bigfoot, I was thinking that also but the two holes on the left and right made me think other wise. What do you think about those holes which look like hanging structures on the original pic?

Don't know what it is, but it's definitely a cool piece!

all parts of parlor stoves are attached for fire prevention etc. They get REAL hot.the basic thinking was that the thicker, heavier the parts the more it would radiate heat after fuel consumed.

The holes are puzzling. I have looked into parlor stove finials a little bit in the past few minutes and cant find an example with holes like that.

....I agree however one cant discount the,"one off"possibility.looking closely at the design and construction it appears crude and not symetrical.this opens up endless possibilities.op having found a possible piece to a stove could be important,or not.I still digging..:icon_thumright:

I am gonna head back this week and see if i cant come up with some other clues. My wife may divorce me after this one. lol. I havent been this intrigued in a while. Thanks for the input. also, i think it may be the photo that is making it look unsymetrical.

Not the same shape- but similar , holes could have been for attaching to lamp top?

I went back this morning and found what i assume to be more pieces of a parlor stove. What do you think?

it looks like it could be from a stove but im still leaning towards my guess. What is puzzling me is that there are designes on the bottom of it as to be seen looking up

Thats a great point. If it sat on top of a stove you wouldnt expect to see detail on the bottom. Good eye

some parlor type stoves had a plate that covered the cooking surface.They had finial/handles for removal.I suppose this is a possibility.Bryan could be right.Used to hang an object.maybe from a stove...lol18th c stove 1.jpg..18th c stove 2.jpg..18th c stove 3.jpg...these are 1700s
