Found this dark red (LOL, it's VERY dark Green!) bird feeder at a church sale.
someone who saw it said 'oh that's Sandwich Glass',
Well I'll be a happy camper if it is...
I see one on Ruby Lane, says 1950s.
Who was blowing crude molded glass in the 50's ???
any help on date or maybe maker is appreciated!
Thanks all, Herbie.

Hi Pete,
Haven't dug a hole in a while,
but recently made my best find ever while trashpickin :headbang:(not this item!!)

the piece pictured is a bird feeder, lug fits between bars on cage,
The hole is so rough, i think birds would get injured without neck feathers.

maybe for finches, looks too small for parakeets.
the ruby lane item is sold... (maybe someone saw a good buy with incorrect provenance)

I'll resort to Epay for a similar example,
just to show it is a bird feeder
Vintage Bird Cage Glass Feeder Antique Old Birds Extremely RARE Color 6791 | eBay
mine has no markings, very rough back surface, the feeding hole is where
the pontil was broken off the mold and never smoothed.
Very dark green color like early bottles.
I have some small Sandwich plates in clear glass,
colored sandwich is rare, as said I'd be quite pleased if it was from this early maker.
thanks for looking! Herbie

Here is one at AntiquesNavigator. They call it "Black Pressed Glass" - whatever that means... No other info except the pair sold for $8.45.

If you want to continue the research try adding the word Hendryx to your search.

They're actually still making them this way today (possibly using the same molds even?), in both glass and porcelain. Too often sold as "vintage", where some might say "classic" or "vintage style". Oddly (I believe) the one in your link is actually porcelain (I think the seller used the same template from the glass ones he's also selling). Anyway, I think yours is vintage, as the ones made today tend to be the more popular colors, but 30's - 50's ? It's tough to say because so many weren't marked, and they kept the same pattern for so long. I can't find ones in the color of yours, so I hope that makes it rare and valuable! (although I didn't see any actually selling at the inflated kind of price the one listed above is asking).
If you go to sell it, you might want to get some light behind it (inside of it?) to show the color.

Thanks Matt and Benz! Green check, one hendryx I found is a match.
I was thinking OLD for two reasons,
the person who said 'Sandwich', and it's color,
which is a very dark green when veiwed with a backlight,
same color as a lot of colonial era bottles.
thanks for looking and HH, Herbie.
