Who is YOUR rock-gem-stone expert...

I wonder how many of us here actually take our 'valuables' to an expert. (I say expert tongue in cheek). I myself took three stones to two gemologist working at the SAME museum (theirs)..and believe it or not (Ripley's)..they both gave me different ID's for each of the three stones. When gently confronted..."well, you need to do a refraction test to be sure."

I wouldn't mind making friends with a 'good' local gemologist rock 'expert' to help IDing some of my 'valuables'.

Just my two kopecks....lol

I'd start with your local University/College geology dept.

Or even join a local rockhound /gem club.

But why show a rock to Ripley's Believe It Or Not people? Just curious.
