puss in boots would be my thought

Its not wearing any boots (Puss had knee length at less), that is the bottom of its trousers.

Defo NOT Egyptian. Cats are represented as cats in Egyptology. Not sitting with trousers on.

Puss in Boots might not be a bad guess. We know Puss n Boots as having thigh high boots but in the original stories maybe they were just boots. No length mentioned.

I've seen Puss n Boots depicted in a coachman's outfit with a similar type jacket. Where in the world was that? Must have been an old book.

I've never seen Felix depicted with clothes on. I haven't found a match to Puss & Boots either, but there are many, many variations of him over the years, most with thigh highs and some without. He has been around since 1697. Are you sure it's a cat? I mean, it looks like one but I don't see a tail. :-\ Nice find what/whomever it turns out to be.

Beauty and the Beast, just the beast. I remember he always wore a medallion around his neck. puss in boots wore a large cap. I think.

Now you all have me on a quest. :D

Felix the cat doesn't wear clothes. As far as I could find. And he's depicted with a pointy nose, at least in U.K.

However, in 1697 Charles Perrault, using his son's name Pierre, wrote Histories du contes du temps passe, avec des moralities:contes de ma mere l'Oye. Translated - Stories or tales from Times Past, with morals: tales of Mother Goose.

The Puss in Boots story appears there. Here's a link to read the story. You'll see the ogre medallion connection.

Here's the thing...how has Puss in Boots been depicted over the years? I doubt I'll be able to track down a picture or description of the 17th century original Mother Goose books. But I did see a picture from 1912 depicting Puss in Boots with just ankle boots on. Not thigh highs, and no clothing but a big hat.

I've seen an old Steiff stuffed animal called "Puss in Boots" on Ebay U.K. Looks like your basic cat with little ankle boots on. No other clothing.

So the Puss in Boots story has been around a long long time. Many different versions of what we think is the look of Puss in Boots are also out there.

This indeed might be a tough one to track down but that medallion around the neck is probably the clue.

Good luck to everyone on the search.
