Since Metal Detecting is what got me into CRH, I wondered how many on this forum metal detect. CRH has been great as I wondered what I would do in my spare time when the ground froze up. Once spring is here, I now have something to do in evenings when I am done MD in the day. I definitely find way more silver CRH but MD has got me gold I will never find CRH. I guess these 2 hobbies go great together.

I am not trying to open up a MD topic as I know this is not place, so am not looking for details about all your finds and the models you're using etc.....

I am the opposite.. CRH got me into Metal Detecting... Granted I rarely got out last summer, but still..

Detecting and crhing since I was 12, so about 35 years.

MD'ing led me to CRH'ing.

I've been detecting since 1980 on an irregular basis. When I get the bug I'll go out everyday. I got the bug right now, but there is 2 feet of snow outside.
Without fail I'll catch a moderate to bad dose of poison ivey at least once a year MDing.
MDing led me to this sight.

Don't be so sure that you won't find gold while CRH'ing. Couple of years ago, a felllow T-Net'er bought customer wrapped nickels. In the roll was a $5 gold Indian. Albeit, it is very remote, but never say never.

To answer your question: I've been CRH'ing way longer than MD'ing. I've only been swinging the coil for a little over 5 years. Now, I dream of sites where I used to live in the Poconos. I've been searching through coins since I was 9. I wish I had more time to CRH, but where I live, there are too many distractions (beaches and beachgoers).

Never MD'ed but thinking about taking it up as a hobby just as soon as I get some free time. Free time is not what I have plenty of these days...

I've been Metal Detecting since 1996. Last spring I bought a Whites V3i, I just need to get out with it more. CRH-ing since the 70's, but just did not know it was called that until I discovered this forum a few years ago.

Ive been detecting for 1 year the metal detecting pushed me more heavily into coin roll hunting I used to coin roll hunt a lot in the 90s also. I certainly find more silver roll hunting than detecting. My metal detecting silver finds - 4 - 1916 Barber dime, 1963,1964 Roosevelts, 1963 Franklin

Been CRHing since the late 90's off and on. I've always wanted a MD, and finally got one three years ago for Valentines day from my sweetie (I married her after that!). However, I haven't gotten to go out and MD more than 7-8 times in 2010 because life happens... CRHing has helped fill the void.
I always keep my White's XLT in the car ready to go though :)

Crh = winter metal detecting

I have been metal detecting for 33 years. I detect alot in the winter, due to the fact that the storms tear up the beach. I found 4 silver dimes today. But i found 2/90s and 4/ 40s CRH after metal detecting. I got into CRH, because a guy I new from the detector club broke one of the main rules about coin roll hunting, and talked about it, so her i am a i got to say its great.

I agree with Diver_Down. Another CRHer got a $25 AGE 1/2 oz. gold piece at face from a bank not long ago, and all of us who've searched bank bags know that lots of odd coins and other items can wind up in there. A gold earring, coin, or ring easily could easily end up in there amongst the guitar picks and other crap. I think I actually found cat crap once, come to think of it. :icon_scratch: Maybe next time it'll be something gold instead of the usual crap.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

been at both hobies for quite some time now they accent each other quite well and i still get a thrill when i find something detecting or crling suprdave

agreed, i started MD'ing, then very shortly after i found CRH'ing, and now ive mostly focused on CRH'ing haha.

Detect, Coin Roll Hunt, Cache Hunt & Prospect. The joy is often in the chase.
A little Shine in the pan helps. ;D

Had a Radio Shack detector as a 11 or 12 year old and was also searching rolls of cents around the same time. Gave up on both after a short time. Picked up metal detecting again around 1990 after my boss asked me to make something for one of his machines. Joined a metal detecting forum about 5 years ago, switched over to this site and saw the CRHing forum and was hooked.

I have been metal detecting for three years since I was 12 years old. I just started coin roll hunting in February 2009 and have always liked it.
