I am flying from Kansas City to Orlando April 4th just so I can metal detect Cocoa Beach. I will only be there till Monday morning but I wanted to know how many TNet people hunt Cocoa Beach? I picked this weekend in hopes that there will still be finds to be found from the Spring Break activities. Any information of what to expect and where I should start would be apreciated. I plan on detecting Friday Afternoon and all day Saturday.

See you at the Beach!

OutBack Duo, First off, welcome to Cocoa Beach and the Florida Space coast. Spring break is in full swing down this way, as our local kids just started spring break this week. Sand was added to Cocoa Beach by our politician friends a couple of months back, so forget about old artifacts on that beach. However, with this being one of the big tourist seasons for us, the beach is ripe with fresh modern jewelry and coins.
A report in the local media a couple weeks ago said that all our local stores and pawn shops were out of metal detectors. Seems to have been a rush on metal detectors due to Gold hitting 1K per ounce. For me, I haven't really seen a significant increase in the number of folks with metal detectors on the local beaches.
Brevard county is busy south of Cocoa Beach, bringing in truck loads of sand from the mainland re nourishing our beaches (a waste of money).
Cocoa beach is a very wide beach, and this time of year it is packed from the pier, south to RonJohns, basically anyplace that you find large concentrations of people, you will find the stuff they leave behind. You should extend your trip and plan on a couple of weeks of hunting, and you still wont be able to detect it all.
Good luck, and happy hunting

PS, the weather is supposed to be outstanding this weekend, bring your sunscreen!

Tom

Your coming at a good time, April 4th and 5th have negative tides around 1 to 2 o’clock noon. I took that Friday off just for that reason so maybe I will see you out there.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Dale and Tom. I am so excited about getting down there I can hardly wait. Living in Kansas City I don't get many opportunities to hunt beaches. I am bringing (shipping them with UPS) both my Excaliber 800 and my DFX so I should be set for just about anything. I don't know if I will make it to the beach on Friday but Saturday I plan on being there before sunrise and staying until dark. I will hunt the dry sand first then hit the water. I got me a brand new bathing suit and a brand new bottle of sun screen. I will be the short, chubby balding guy out there who looks like a kid in a candy shop.

Don

Tom:
You talking about the short and balding comment or the everyone else will be there part? :D
Yes I’m short and chubby but hitting 50 does that.

LOL, tell me about it. I hit 50 this last November myself.

The Beach Boys were playing the Cocoa Beach Pier last night!
should be some interesting finds this morning. You hitting the beach this morning Dale?

Tom

I guess I am just a kid, I turned 45 this past Wednesday. Who is playing next Friday on the Pier?

I’m at work this morning, but I think I can actually hear all the metal detectors out there right now. :laughing7:

Dale

Bummer for you Dale! On a day like yesterday (and Today), you should be on the beach. You need to invite the boss to the beach with you and loan him one of your detectors.

Don't know about the band schedules at the Pier, just know that the Beach Boys play here a couple times a year and they can get big crowds. I also like to search the Surfer web pages and hit the beaches following the local surf competitions.

Why did I move to Florida?

Summer will soon be upon us, and I must abandon most of my beach hunting, and head for deeper waters.

Tom

You are right Tom
I take my days off by looking at the tide charts.
Next weekend will be a long weekend for me.

My hunting buddy trashdude went out Saturday morning and he said they still had the chain link fencing up around the area. Last year you could get in there, but not this year I guess. The beach boys had a bigger stage this year, and it was about a two story high lighting system.
I did get out today and found some strange stuff. I will post that soon.
Hope you do well in the deep water this summer.

Dale
