JRF is on the ball.

I don't understand this concept... we have BILLIONS of coins in circulation, I personally think the mint should stop making coins for a few years...

Despite past production there is a need for new coins. The mint knows current demand for coins, based on coin orders banks place with the Federal Reserve. If the Mint didn't make new pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters there would be a shortage of coin. Where do all the coins go? Many are taken out of circulation.

Great Britain did that before, that is how the 1933 penny is so rare.

and probably our 2009 nickel. lol

My thoughts exactly. they didnb't make many coins in 2009. A bonus for US. :-) So they do adjust. Just can't go a year with nothing. But 2009 was a good year for us to collect.

And the 2009 dime is also pretty rare and hard to find. (The 2009 penny, all four versions, are NOT hard to find, and not worth collecting or keeping, IMHO)

I found a 2009 dime yesterday. I was pretty excited about it since I usually only do cents and nickels. I have about 15 2009 d nickels so far this year.

oops - I threw back 2 rolls of these "rare" 2009 dimes recently.
I just didn't know a mintage of 45+ millions is considered rare.

I should've said that "the mint has not released them yet. On June 20th, the public can order 2013 Halves directly from the mint. Let's see what can find 2013 half first. Jeff was right about the production info but the releasing schedule is different.
