So... I was out doing a couple of errands with my daughter, and since we were out and about, I decided to check and see if the local second hand store had re-opened, and lo and behold it was, so we gloved up and put our masks on and in we went. Looked around he main floor and didnt see anything interesting so we went downstairs and I wish somebody would let me know how to post pictures from my dumb phone because I found a White's Beachcomber hanging from a rack. I grabbed it and started checking it out, couldnt find any damage and it looked very well taken care of, so I went upstairs to the owner's office to ask if he had any batteries to test it out with. He had 4 AA and I had a couple in the truck so we opened the battery port and popped in the batteries and the turned the power switch on. HOLY CRAP THIS OLD THING WORKS !!!
So.. I plunked down $25.00 and went home with my second metal detector.
This is the same store I found my MineLab sd2200d in, by the way !!
Anyways, I brought the new to me Beachcomber home and just did a quick test on my wedding ring with it and it picked it up from about 4 inches deep in the garden soil. What a freakin score !!!

Does anybody else have one of these? How do you like it , do you use it, what have you found with it ???

If anything else for 25 beans you at least have a piece of retro art.

Just did some searching. looks like it sold for $260. Take care of it. It it's self is a treasure.

Good luck I see you found how to post once in awhile I come across a good deal like that let us know how this turns out once you get it out in the field
You can see that Google's voice dictation feature does not do punctuation well. [emoji16]

Nice

Beachcomber, it's has many colors, I had grey and orange.
It's depend on which one. One of them it's very sensitive to Gold rings. If it works on any position (discrimination) in the beach, it has interesting deep.
Good Luck:occasion14::occasion14::occasion14:

Usually, the higher frequencies hone in on gold better. I believe the gold-centric units ran at 14khz, while general usage units would run at 7khz.

I burried my wedding ring about 4 inches deep in the garden and it picked that up no problem. I found a ppiece of Indian gold jewelry last year laying on the floor in the local mall and its 18k and it picked it up at the same depth.

I recently sold one exactly like that, it has the scarce palm tree coil. It was likely made in 1975, uses a classic 100kHz TR circuit. Ironically, White's/UK still makes them for the French utility market under a different name.

I like it. Congratulations :icon_thumright:

I remember them - not that many sold - they werent available for that long - so many new machines were popping out at that
time and better choices were offered by whites and others
so i would say its a rare find

I owned one of them that also had the discriminatior and probably bought it in the early 1970's. I do not remember the price I paid but it was what I could afford at the time. In my opinion it was a decent detector. I do know I found more money, rings etc to more than cover the cost. Sold it a couple of years ago for $25.00. Did find the instructions a year or so ago but don't know where it is now.
