White's m6 vs the tesoro Vaquero

Hello all! I am in the market for my second detector, and I am currently deciding between the m6 and Vaquero. My primary focus is coin shooting, so I want the best coin shooting detector possible. These two appear more than sufficient for the job, so I want to know which is better for my interest. Furthermore, how is white's customer service? I know tesoro is renowned for its gear service and warranties. Is white's on the same level in that regard? Thanks a bunch!

Whites customer service is the best one in the market in my opinion. As for which detector is better for coinshooter I can't tell since I never had that particular tesoro model. I did have a whites mxt and it is awesome.
Whites is a multi tone machine and has a screen. That is an advantage. You need to know if you care to have a screen or not, multi tone is a very nice feature in my opinion.

The Vaquero in my opinion,is a detector to consider for areas hunting for deep coins & relics.I would not grab it for like park hunting. The vaq is a raw, deep, stable detector if you want to go a little deeper.

My husband uses an M6 for coin hunting. It does quite well...found 2 silver dimes yesterday, about 6 inches deep. ($6+ total clad found in 3 hour hunt with M6.) You may want to consider either adding a DD coil or 5.3 coil to enhance the M6. Both coils work extremely well in parks and other trashy areas. We have not had any experience with the Tesoro machine.

Have called White's with questions a couple of times and they have been wonderful. They explained things to me in language I could understand, i.e., not overly technical. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them at all.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody -- the responses have certainly been helpful thus far. Does the M6's LCD prove useful?

If you're going to consider a Tesoro for coinshooting then I'd suggest taking a real close look at the Golden umax. The multi tones and notch settings really help!

I vote for the Vaquero. Screens and VDI readouts are gimmicks, in my never humble opinion, and my 35-years of experience. The reason these "which one is better" questions carry no water, is simple - nobody owns and uses BOTH the machines you are asking about. Since Whites has many more dealers (because dealers make a much higher profit on Whites than they can with Factory set price caps on Tesoro machines), you are far more likely to get more positives from Whites owners and dealers.

I haven't owned a Whites machine since 1989. I've tested quite a few, including the Dual Field and V3i. I chose to stay with my Tesoro and Minelab machines after those tests.

I have a friend that used to have an M6, and at that time I used a Vaquero and a Lobo Super Traq. The Vaquero and the LST were definatly deeper, also I didn't have to worry about what a read out said. Although, that's the age old argument. The coil selection is greater for the Vaquero(9), they are less expensive, and they work on three other detectors. The main difference is the M6 has an auto tracking GB with a lock feature and the Vaquero has manual GB. I would say that $200+ for auto tracking GB with no provision for manual is steep. The M6 retails for $699, and the Vaquero retails for $446. The Tesoro Vaquero is a better value, a deeper detector, and very simple controls.

All of the machines I have used with screens and VDI all had multi-tone audio to go along with it. The screens and VDI introduce additional information, which, along with the tone audio, help the detectorist make a decision about the target located under their coil. On my XLT, I can turn those features off and hunt by multi-tone only. Believe it or not my XLT has been very accurate with the VDI and icon readout on coins in the 7"-8" range, especially since White's had the good sense to assign a tone to each VDI number. While nothing is foolproof or 100% accurate, I cannot complain about the performance of my XLT. I started out on beep and dig machine, learned how to operate it and pinpoint with it, and I even bought a Cibola a few years ago. I ended up selling the Cibola because I can no longer deal with a machine with just a single tone.
In my opinion, White’s sells more detectors than Tesoro because White’s is selling detectors with features that many people want. I do not have a problem with Tesoro; they just do not manufacture many products that fit into my detecting style.

I would pick a machine with multi-tone and VCO audio.

why wouldn't you grab a Vaquero for park hunting? Some parks are old and wouldn't you want to get the deeper coins in hunted out parks? as well as the gold and silver rings

Yes you are right. The vaq is fine for park hunting.I have just been enjoying my golden umax so much in the parks with the notch disc, and tones. But you are spot on.There are not many US made detectors that can come close to the superior depth of the vaqereo. :-Q

WOW! How ironic...I own a Vaquero at the moment. At 11:30 I am heading out to buy a used m6 lol. I am a newbie (started heavy in march). I have no complaints about the Tesoro, other than to say it took me quite some time to learn how to use it! After I learned though, it treated me very well. I found a buffalo nickel at 9inches in a well-hunted park here in Grand Rapids Mi, along with jewelry, relics, and damn near everything else desirable. Even after reading about the "depth issue dilemma" with the m6, I look forward to giving it a shot. The Tesoro stays with me though, for when I go to less trashy environments like fields, woods, etc. The multi-frequency option with the vaq. has proven to be very helpful when the ground is wet or of high mineralization in my opinion. I am not 'downing the Tesoro at all, especially with it's loyal lifetime warranty. At this point, the worst that can happen is that I might not like the m6, and I post it for re-sale (good re-sale value)...Old post, I know, but hey, just too damn ironic to my situ. to not comment on. But I do agree with the person that said the vaq might not be best used in a park, especially with the stock coil. Although, everything I have found thus far in my hobby has been courtesy of the Tesoro Vaquero, in parks and everywhere else, but that's not to say that digging a ring with the Vaquero amongst aluminum foil is an easy task, which is why I am purchasing the m6 later today also. My Vaquero is my top choice for parks. It's the Tejon I would leave at home. I save that for the fields.

I bought a vaquero and have never been so let down, did not live up to all the hype for me. One tone and thumbing the knob guessing what it might be no thanks.
