Hi everyone....I have been detecting on and off for about 30 years never to serious......until about 2000 - 2009 I really was going out often...then I had a bad injury leaving me disabled at 45 I sold my MXT to help with bills and after 6 surgeries including a 4 level back fusion and a triple foot fusion....I am ready to detect again as it is great exercise and I miss the fun....my question is what detector should I get...I love Whites and have owned 2 xlt's and 2 mxt's but I here a lot about the Whites M6 and the Garretts at/pro.....I keep it simple im not into all the programs and crap.... and find just as much if not more then my buddy with his top of the line detector that he's always playing with and adjusting...lol.... I live in North-West New Jersey where I have a lot of old farms and homesteads to hunt along with parks...churches...schools...etc...and a few reservoir beaches I dont go under water just the beach so which do you think is better suited for my needs....

Thanks for all your advise , Bob

I can give you my experience with the AT Pro. Love it ... Although since this is the only detector I have or have used since I was a kid, my endorsement is obviously not a comparison. Reason for purchasing is based on reading many comments from experienced detector owners, and of course watching advertising videos.

Like you, I'm not fond of mega-tech type bells and whistles. The AT Pro does have "features" but in my opinion nothing so complicated that I can't master in a hours. This is coming from a guy who has yet to master a digital video recorder remote control. Wife considers me a lost cause when I tinker with that remote control.

Anyway, if you decide on the Garrett AT Pro, I don't think you will be grousing about too many or too few features. I have to use the earphones all the time because my hearing is ... well ... suffering from old age.

The M6 is a good detector, but the At Pro is considered more of a relic and coin machine. It will allow you to go where others can't on the reservoir beaches.

I have an M6 it's a really nice machine but I have dug way more silver with the MXT an V3i. Get an MXT pro. The ATs seem like toys to me.

less mes sen around with M6 analogue digital and is cheaper than mxt
or look at the GT from white's looks like a sleeper, lite and power full and all the bells and whistle of the M6 if not more
and the speedometer goes down 10+ inches
the M6 pegs the needle at 12+

I do have an AtPro, and before I got it I was between an mxt pro and an atpro. From what ive read they are very similar in overall performance, but the at pro is waterproof which is why i chose it. I like the detector a lot though, but I think if I were to do it again I would get an at gold because it comes with the smaller coil and is even more sensitive except for beach hunting. I do like the solid build of the mxt though.
