Hello.
Went to the beach this morning. Only the 2nd time there with the new M6. I dont see any difference whether im in beach, lock or on. Its a salt water beach, quite a bit of hot rock. I read the manual 4 times and watched the dvd that came with the unit. Still dont get it. On dry sand it is quiet in all the ground balance modes. But when I go near the wet sand, It tones and the display goes all over the scales. I dont touch the sand with the coil. If I do its just a steady tone. Can anyone tell me the correct way to ground balance this machine? Thanks,
Steve

Steve when you travel from dry sand to wet sand or even salt water, the ground balance has to be changed. So if you hunt in dry sand no problem. But if you change spots and want to hunt in the wet sand or water. The machine must be re-ground balanced in that spot. Not balancing in dry then cross over to the wet salt sand or water. Thats whats throwing your machine off.

I use an MXT but ground balance should be the same. I think. Excuse me for saying anything obvious to you. Don't ground balance over dry sand then try to detect in wet sand. Not gonna work. Ground balance over wet sand with toggle set to salt. Gain at preset. Or Sens if that's how the M6 is labled. Pump the coil as explained in the manual. If you can't get an even threshold hum, back off the Gain/Sens a little at a time till you do. An even threshold with Gain/Sens set one or two notches below preset will give you better results than an erratic threshold with Gain/Sens set at preset or above.
Try this link and ask the same question. People at this site with more M6/saltwater experience than me. Good luck and have fun.

Whites has a learning video on their website for the M6 as well as most of their other machines. Their is a good segment on beach hunting.
