And i forgot to add that there were a lot of overloads because of " bad ground" and also there were about ten to fifteen pits and mine shafts that were for gold in the relatively small area we hunted for gold. Alex

Many pits and mine shafts in a small area? Sounds like others think it is a good area. Alex, The GMT has auto ground balance. It will balance to the "bad ground". After a few dozen hours of practice, you will learn this and know the GMT will be all right. Also, if you are finding TINY bits of metal, have heart! Your detector is doing good to find tiny bits. That means you have the settings right and will not pass up tiny bits of gold! Your machine is working good. It is a good machine.... one of the best VLFs available. Picking up junk? NO WAY to get around that! The only draw back to detecting for gold is that you must put up with the junk. Sorry. Just keep a positive attitude and KNOW that you have one of the best detectors for finding gold! Now, go get 'em, Tiger! TTC

Steve Herschbach has some great info. concerning the GMT on his web site(DetectorProspector.com) In highly mineralized ground, I have found that increasing the V/SAT(to around 5-6) and decreasing the gain/sensitivity some seems to help quiet the machine . I usually prefer to run in fixed or manual but if locked in "tracking" you need your swing as wide and consistent as possible for that feature work effectively. When you get a good signal, switching manual to pin point will assure the machine won't "track out" the the target. Also, the 4x6 shooter coil seems to handle the nasty ground better.

Those trashy area will runs lots of prospectors away. If you are patient and clean all the trash, you can back over the cleared area and often find some nice patches. If you are finding trash, you can find treasure
