Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

I ordered a new pack last week. I think that will most likely fix the problem. I'm mainly wondering if anyone had seen examples of the foam, etc conducting electricity and draining the batteries.

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

They do make conductive foam but I wouldnt think that it would be around your batterys and normal foam rubber will not conduct unless it is soaked in water or something.

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

My guess your Batteries Developed a Memory.
or just wore out. Being an Eagle, I would guess you have the older
type Recharbles, that shouldn't be charged before their dead.

Do you Charge them before they are Fully Drained ?

If you do, the batteries will Develop a Memory.
Much like if you Eat every day at noon & all of a sudden
don't.
If you charge your battery after every 5 hours of use.
your battery won't give you 6 hours. and after awhile it wont
even give you five.

Supposedly, This can be fixed sometimes, by killing the battery, Recharging,
and Rekilling it & recharging over & over. however I have never
been able to get them to recover completly.

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

My rechargeable battery died a decade or so ago. (I bought this detector in 1989.) I'm referring to the "C" cell battery pack. I've ordered a replacement. The batteries in the old pack will go dead with the detector turned off. You can test new batteries, put them in the detector, leave the detector off, and then in a few days the batteries will be dead.

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

Bought my Spectrum new in 1993. It drains the batteries when they are left in it. I have always taken them out.

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

I have my Eagle Spectrum for over 13 yrs. now with really no major problems. NEVER had any battery problems like you described although I always take my rechargeable out after ever hunt and recharge it. I ONLY use the C batteries as a backup when I know I'm gonna be away for a long time, otherwise may I suggest you get another rechargeable battery pack...........Rich

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

Have a look at the battery box inset terminals. See if there is any sign of pitting. If so its sparking across. The answer is to open the control box and bend the contacts back slightly towards the rear of the machine. Then in future don't let the battery pack slide in with any force.

Re: White's Eagle Spectrum Battery Drain

I called my service number for Whites and talked to one of their repair guys. He said that some battery holders were accidentally made with conductive foam in them in the late 80's. I bought my detector during that time frame.

At any rate buying a new rechargeable or "c" battery holder will fix the problem. As a matter of fact, I got my new "c" battery holder in yesterday and I'm currently testing it to see if if drains. I'll have to order a new rechargeable later because my old one died about a decade ago!

I'll be glad to have my old Spectrum behaving again.
