Whites DFX ???

There is a very interesting program on Tuesday nights on the Travel Channel. Recently they featured meteorites in one of the western states, and they were finding them with metal detectors. The White's DFX definitely should get them. Of course, some meteorites are dug up using backhoes!? Good luck!

Well, to expect to find meteroites you are going to need to find a strewn field. Your more likely to find everything else with a metal detector unless your someplace you know they can be found. Any old rock that happens to make the detector beep is more than likely going to turn out to be a Meteor Wrong if you don't know what your looking for. Hematite, magnatite, slag, lumps of melted metal from camp or forest fires, can all look like a meteorite, but have to remember that a genuine meteorite is more rare than finding gold nuggets.

You have been watching television if you want to hunt for meteorites. They are hard to find and Missouri has no real meteor craters. There are two listed on the Internet as being in the State of Missouri, but they are oisted as being possible meteorite or volcano craters. One is near Steelville. If you want to find meteorites do a google search on METEORITES "METAL DETECTOR" HUNT and maybe you will find some sites. A detector will pick up a meteorite because of the iron and nickel contents.
