Is this a worthwhile machine. Any pro and cons?

I don't know why people say stuff like that, except maybe they don't know how to use it. You can operate it in "all metal" mode, and at 15khz for gold, platinum, etc...the low conductor metals. It won't pick up the tiny stuff the GMT, and Fisher Gold Bug 2 will find, but it does just as well as any other detector out there that operates at that frequency. Typically, the higher frequency units have an advantage when looking for tiny pieces of gold. The Fisher GB2 operates at 73khz. The White's GMT, which I use, operates at 48 khz. That said, I don't feel all that handicapped when using the DFX for gold, as I sometimes do. Sometimes, when I'm out looking for coins & relics at old mining camps, I'll take a swing around on prospecting mode just in case. I've found stuff as small as #8 shot, which is pretty good IMHO. If you want to use it prospecting, do an Internet search for prospecting programs for it. There are a few out there. The factory prospecting program is just "OK". Skilled users have come up with some pretty good tweaks to get more out of it when prospecting. As you'll learn on the DFX...once you have a program installed, you can "save" it, and go back to it any time you want. A really good book on the DFX is "Digging Deeper with the DFX" by Jeff Foster.Someone else said its not a good small gold finder
Thanks again Jim
