White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

Hello Guys,
I've read a lot about White's DFX and Minelab Explorer II, the both of them seem to be the best machines. I'm going to buy one of them. The targets will be caches burried up to 1 meter with the size more then soda can and also gold nuggets more then 1 gram.

I know that explorer II seems "a bit" deeper seeking machine then dfx? How much will be this "a bit"? is that true? or that depands on the settings and the technic of seeking?

also I know that dfx is much better on gold nugget then explorer II , is that true?

one more note, I'll be using 12" or wider coils for cache hunting and the standard (8") coils for nugget hunting

please post any comments.
In advance thank you.

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

Don't you have any idea? ??? ???

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

EE THr ,
the models you have suggested are the best without any doubts, The opinions will be very interesting about them, but I'm going to buy DFX or explorer II,
also dfx 300 and EXP SE are newest models and I don't know if people have much experience on them.

Anyway any comments are welcome including DFX 300 and Explorer SE

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

since detectors came out people have tried to compare. it always comes down to one thing. the best one is the one you like to use and the one you will learn to use. people out there running around with 4k detectors and cant find their zipper to go to the bathroom. have kids out using 100 dollar units and finding gold and silver.

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

al-nm,
But I mean the both of detectors in the hands of experienced user.... in the same conditions...

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

for strictly cache hunting and prospecting, i wouldnt choose either. i would go with a Garrett GTI 2500, get the depth multiplier for the caches. that setup will destroy both the Whites and the Minelab for depth on a large target. one meter (3` is beyond what the Minelab or the Whites can do in my opinion, even with a 12" coil unless the target is huge)

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

hollowpointred,
will GTI 2500 do better than DFX and Exp II on gold nuggets over 1gram?

How do you think , what will be maximum depth for DFX and Exp II on the soda can targets?

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

HI: what you are asking for is strictly a compromise. You have to decide if you want small gold nuggetts or fair sized, deep caches. It is rarther like asking for an automobile which will fulfuill a sport / Utility/ general hauling, and luxury car specifications..

If you want fine Gold, aqnd shallow caches, either of them will do nicely. If You want big caches, the Garrett will outshine them for medium deep caches on, and will possibly hold it's own on Gold pickers in the 1 gram + sze..

Secondary thing / thought , balance. Can you swing a 12" coil all day long? You can swing a Garrett with the depth finder all day long. Caches require long periods if you expect success, plus, remember, most big caches are in the brush, a 12 " coils is difficult to maneuver there.. The Garrett is also, but it is less sensitive to heigth above the ground and jarring.

Incidentally, where do you expect to find 1 gram Gold nuggetts in quantity? I would suyggest finding the Gold Placer field first, then going from there.

Hollow point is correct listen to him, I do.

Real de Tayopa,
do you mean that garret gti 2500 will outshine dfx and exp 2 without being two box? just in one coil option? or with it?

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

do you mean that, garret gti will beat the dfx and exp in cache hunting with two box mode? and in nugget shooting with one coil mode?

if yes, it should be really universal machine...

also how do you think , which will perform better GTI, DFX or EXP II on caches and on nuggets in one coil mode? I think on nuggets DFX on caches EXP II... but with 12"+ coils DFX and EXP II may be similar on caches... so DFX may be better... or EXP II is much better on caches and am I mistaken?

in my opinion the two box Garrett will do much better in depth for large targets than either the whites or minelab with a 12" coil installed on either. with 12" coils on all three, thats a tough one. i would say its a tie between the minelab and the whites with a slight edge to the minelab. with a coil looking for nuggets, that is also a tough one. i would go with the minelab first due to its reputation with difficult soil, followed by a tie between the Garrett and the Whites. really all three are excellent machines, but if you plan on doing lots of cache hunting, i would invest in a Garrett with the depth multiplier. it will do both jobs.

not bad advice for being a lame brain eh! :D thanks for the kind words! :)

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

hollowpointred,
Thank you very much for such a full answer.
I've one more question, How practical is two box Garret? I mean in nerrow places such as rocks, forests, caves and similar places how practical is it? also what is minimal size of the subject it will find with two box mode? and what is minimal depth it will find the mentioned subject?

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

the DFX 300 and the DFX are the same control box. the 300 comes with a 12 super coil, the other is the standard 950. I'm not sure about the SE
what's more important to you, finding gold, or finding chache ?
if you want gold, get a gold machine. if it's cache, buy a good all-around MD, either way. the important thing is to learn you MD and listen to it

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

Thanks guys for all your comments, but it seems that two box detector including Garret GTI 2500 seems very unprectical for my purposes...

Some say that DFX is better on gold nuggets then EXP II...
and EXP II is better then DFX on caches...

hollowpointred, says that EXP II is better in both cases...

what do you think?

pretty close actually. only slight differences.

Re: White's DFX vs Minelab Explorer II

HI" I would suggest opening up the manufacturers data on each first, including comparitive charts, then go from there on questions.

Remember the most important factor is the operator, no different than Daytona racing. A good operator can iron out radical differences.

Hello Guys,
What do you think about DFX and MXT? Is MXT as good as or better then DFX on caches?
