Have you checked radio shack for a new potentiometer

No I haven't! All the Radio Shack Stores here have converted more than half of their' inventory to selling Cell Phones and they no longer carry many electronic components. Also, I want to make sure I get the correct pot (watt/amp/ohms) for the metal detector which I will likely sell once repaired.

I bought mine at radio shack. If they don't have them in stock they have an electronics catalogue. They can verify wattage and look at yours as well. Very simple fixes. I replaced mine and the volume control potentiometer. Also whites is spectacular on repairs. Most times they don't charge you as much as you would think. I think the last one I bought was around $8.

Thanks for the info! I may try Radio Shack and see if they have it or can get it. Although I would love for White's to do the repairs and a tune-up on the Metal Detector, the costs to return ratio when considering what I paid for it, the shipping and repair costs compared to what I could possible get for it when sold, just don't seem to be in my favor. I have several MD's that I want White's to check over and/or repair as well as tune-up and these are higher priority to me.

Whites doesn't have that long of a warranty but they generally are top notch for making it right with you especially on something like that. They replaced several items on my old classic ID a few years ago at no cost except shipping
