white's coil

i got a 100 dollar certificate to white's for sending my story in and i allready have most everything i need (2 lesches, sand scoop, carrying case, pinpointer, 6x10 DD coil, headphones) and i'm stuck at what to buy. im thinking the 5.3 coil for the xlt but i dont know if it would be worth it as it is similar to the 6x10 DD. any imput appreciated ;)

Re: white's coil

The 5.3 Eclipse is a great little coil for trashy areas. I use my Super12, the 5.3 is in the car trunk if I need it, and the stock 950 is in the basement.

do you think i will lose some depth if i use the 5.3 coil instead of the stock?

Re: white's coil

You will lose some depth but not much and even though the 6X10 is a great target separator many areas are even to trashy for it. The 5.3 or the 4X6DD would be a valuable addition to the arsenal. I prefer the 4X6DD.

Re: white's coil

ok it seems the 6x6 and the 5.3 are too similar for my liking since i allready have the 6x6. i can't figure out what to get!! >:(

Re: white's coil

Am i reading this wrong ? You have a 6x10" coil and using an XLT? Your only listing the XLT as the detector used. Help us out here. HH Bill

If you look at the depth charts in Jeff Foster's "Digging Deeper with the DFX" (a must-have book), there's no doubt that you give up a little bit of depth with the 5.3. Plus the smaller footprint means you're going to need more swings and more time to cover a site.
But if you need better target separation than you'd get with a larger coil, due to trash, iron nails, etc., it's a good tool to have in your arsenal.

[Note: Great minds think alike? I just read the whole thread, and I'm the 2nd one to use 'arsenal'--maybe b/c I'm ex-military or maybe b/c I used to live near the old WW2 Warren, MI tank plant that was called that.]

If you have the round 6 inch coil, that is the same thing as the 5.3 Bullseye coil.

If you hunt where lots of pulltabs are, you should get the Blue Max 4X6 "shooter" coil. It will help in locating the coins from the very close trash items.
Or if you want to go to a larger coil the Maxima 1500 is much heavier than the stock 9 1/2 inch coil and you will get tired after a few hours of use.

I have an IDX and it uses the same coils that the XLT uses.

I own the 9 1/2, the 8 inch, the 6 inch and the 4X6 shooter coils for it.

I mostly use the 6 inch round(5.3 coil), or the shooter coil.I hope this helps.
