I have a Whites classic id machine that I bought on e-bay and was wondering how good of a machine it is? The reason why I bought it was that I heard it was really good in trashy area. Is that true? What about the sweep speed how fast should one sweep the coil? I notice if I swept it too fast it was hard to pick up object. Hope to hear all of your imput on this one!!! Aloha ;D

The Classic is still a fair machine without all the features some say they need. It is no better in trashy areas than the new ones, except the Minelabs BBS detectors. Trasy areas are best hunted with a small coil to get between the trash so you may only have one target under the coil at any one time.

Sweep speed should be slower for best results. However you need to check this on the type ground your going to be searching.

Good Luck,
Sandman

makahaman, I say the whites classic id machine is a damn good one! 8) And maybe that's just because I own one! 8) Not sure what you bought it for but I bought mine March 99, for $354.

Good luck with the machine! 8)

I have had mine a year this Christmas! I love mine. It's not complicated. Easy to learn. The main downside I have found is depth. Otherwise I have found coins, rings, etc. Just today I found a 1956 rosie. It read at the quarter mark. I recently turned in my accumulated quarters, dimes and nickels for over $234! I have 1 gold ring, 37 silver rings, 9 or so misc. silver crosses and pendants. So......thumbs-up for your purchase. Ideas to start with: Find an area that has high people traffic. Grid out an area to detect. Start with discrimination to find the easy coins and silver. This will get you used to the sounds and how to dig up your finds. After you are finished...go over the area in the ring mode. You will dig up nickels, pop tops and possibly gold. Happy hunting.
