My Dad posted his... I kind of moved on to other things and just didn't have the time to crop my images and post them. I'm just going to keep this short and post my finds and the video I made. Basically the trip my Dad and Brother and I went on was up in Whitehall, MI for 4 days on a boyscout reservation. We stayed in this awexomely close to nature type cabin on the lake... hmm, maybe I should just repost my story from the DFXonly forum... here ya go:

So we got there Thursday afternoon and stopped at Wal-mart in Muskegon to stock up on food. We went straight for the cabin (#14) on the north side of the lake. I think I remember ranger Al telling me it was one of the nicest views of all of the cabins. Well, Friday morning proved his point with the absence of wind the lake was completely at peace. See a little panorama I put together here:

The cabin was a little more 'at one' with mother nature than I expected, but in all fairness, it was WAY better than sleeping in a tent with no hot shower in the morning, or heater at night. Due to the fact that we were not going to be at the cabin all that much, it wasn't going to be a problem.

Thursday night we pretty much hung around the cabin and had a fire going... with a little detecting around the cabin. Didn't find much more than clad. My Dad got his first wheatie, and the first coins my brother and I dug were birthday coins ;) That was freaky. Another freaky time was several days later when my Dad dug something and called us on the radio, I responded with something completely out of the norm, "what's up chief?" and he had just dug the Chief Trail pendant. Bizarre.

Friday morning we hunted Hiawatha Beach first because we figured the crowd was going to Blackhawk and we thought the area up there was older. Little did we know that Blackhawk had 2 Walkers, a barber or two and a suitcase full of clad at the top of Clad Hill. We'll we met up with some guys at Hiawatha that were water hunting the beach (sorry didn't get your name). I scored the first old coin there, just a 40's wheatie but I got it right away and thought it was a good sign of things to come. That was the only wheatie I got there, and my brother snagged his second silver ever.. first silver of the hunt there. Well you know how it goes, once you find silver you get obsessed with finding more. At first I was all about it, but after a couple hours of not finding much of anything but deep clad, I was ready to go. We decided to break for lunch and then try to either go up to Blackhawk or see if anything else turned up. Well just as we were getting ready to leave the cabin I was looking at some maps and just happened to see "Bass Lake" right there on the map. Well we were off to find it. When we arrived we met up with Kevo and another hunter (sorry forgot your name) that were just trying to get to the same location. When we got there we found the lake first, and then Kevo found the camp so we met up with him there. To make a long story short, this Bass Lake Camp must have been hit hard over the years because there were not many good signals left. We all probably pulled 20 wheaties and 4 silver out of there... but that's about it, and that's with a LOT of swinging. Anyhoo, it was great to hunt that location... the hike back out of there was not so fun. We were delirious from exhaustion on the walk back. I guess Kevo forgot his Lesche digger there too, but we went back and found it for him. Somehow you'll have to PM us your address Kevo and we'll mail it to ya.

I have a short video of the first silver I dug, which was at Bass Lake Camp. You can watch it here:

Unfortunately I don't have any other videos of finds, because it was raining much of the other times we were hunting and I didn't want to get my camera messed up.

I think Friday night we night hunted Blackhawk and found tons of clad and my brother was killing it with wheaties. My Dad ended up finding a merc that night there too. I think we got to bed at 1am on Saturday morning. That was a LONG day of hunting.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I camped there from 1972-1975 and worked there from 76-79. I even own the same buckle you found.

Hey Ronbo22,

What a small world! What troop were you in? We got a special tour of the Owassipe Museum (est. 1970) and I took a ton of pictures. Maybe I can find something memorable for you in there :) There are albums of all of the troop pictures in the museum as well (I didn't get pics of those though - if you ever visit, be sure to look for those). I would like to see some pictures of your buckle if you get a chance... it'd be nice to see what one used to look like before the plating was coming off. BTW: I did not see one of those buckles in the museum... they are still accepting donations and will put your name on display next to the donated item :D
