Not necessarily! Are there lode mines in the area? Best bet would be to bring home some samples and crush them and pan.

Look for signs of mineralization. FeO is reddish in color. Old timers said the redder the better. Sample ugly reddish stained rocks.

What bakergeol said. Look for "rotten" quartz, perhaps rusty. Sample, sample and sample!
You only know there is gold there by finding it.:thumbsup:
