i found this whistle and lead ball at a home site that dates back to 1870...at first i thought the whistle was just a kids toy until i saw a post on todays finds of one similar to mine....my research on it hasnt turned up much so i was wondering if someone could tell me more about it..also the lead ball...looks kinda like a musket ball but it has a mess up on one side.

The ugly spot on the ball is a spru. I think the whistle is what was called a penny whistle? Tony

the musket ball was not cleaned up after being cast thus the "spue" where the lead went into the hole in the mold when poured in a molten state -- normally afterward its cut off and smoothed .
