While we're on the topic of early cutlery here's a few more I've found

All of these pewter spoons and the strainer were found at my colonial creekfront site that I've talked about several times before. There was a mill at this spot in the 1600s, and I believe a tavern was built later due to all the early bottle and pottery frags I've been finding at this site for 15+ years. I've never really checked, but can anyone date the rat tail spoons and strainer? I'm thinking around the mid-1700s but not sure. Don't see any marks on any of them unfortunately. Also, note that very interesting geometric design in the bowl of the broken spoon. Not sure what that was all about, but it's pretty cool. Thanks in advance for any help.

I really like that big ole spoon in your hand, those are sweet finds.I've found some that looked like they were ran over by a steam roller and I never could figure out how they got that way. Thanks for sharing Bill

I have recovered engraved fragments before. Some had initials, some just appeared to be random geometric designs done to pass the time. Great finds! I've actually never recovered an intact pewter spoon. Dug boxes of parts of them, though.

Best Wishes,

Buck
