Which part of MD is most fragile?

I have only been detecting for about six months, so my experience with metal detectors is very limited...
I have heard of several people breaking either the lower rod were is connects to the coil, or breaking the bracket that hold the coil onto the shaft... As far as I know this is usually one of the weakest points..
As for the unit getting bumped around... The solid state construction is pretty tough, but if you have a meter a good bump can possibly destroy it... Also bumping the unit too hard could throw off the calibration of the machine...
Hope this helps,,, Good Luck & Happing Hunting~

I have to agree with LEON, I'v broken the part that connects to the coil on Both my last detectors, But everything else seems to hold up well

I broke the tabs on the coil of my Bounty Hunter.....dont really know how though. I got it out of the trunk and started to use it and the coil just fell off. Both tabs and knobs that tighten the coil to the lower shaft were cracked ???

I made new tabs out of a piece of welding wire spool and epoxied them on. Probally stronger now than before.

wow...I see. thank you for sharing your experience with me and the forum. I will keep that in mind.

It is such a good lesson to learn from others who went through it and the innovation to get it fix.

I never broke anything on the outside of a detector,BUTIonce had a LARGE wave wash over my Garrett cx2 when I was water hunting-cost me$175.00 to fix it;went out and bought a water detector to avoid that problem again. ::)
