The English language is an interesting study, and of particular interest are the patterns of use one develops when applying that language. The entire story is geared around the pursuit and activities of 30 men, all equal owners, all having a voice in what was to be done with the alleged wealth, a portion of them accompanying this wealth all the way to the depository. So given this, and the pattern of language use in the letters, "I have deposited...." is a prime example of pattern conflict VS "We have deposited....."

Now you may not think this has anything at all to do with the topic of this thread, but it does. "Be cautious of the conclusions you draw."

Yes it's like he's saying he's the only one left which makes sense if you consider the dangers they all
suffered getting all that treasure. My opinion is they took a big gamble and split up and robbed all the
banks in the country, then took it to Bufords and dug the chambers. After the loot was in place they
began to argue over who got what. Then all heck took place, shooting began and only one was left
to tell the tale.

....well that could be one possibility. But I think the clear text of C2 makes it perfectly clear that just one individual was running the show, whatever that show might be. Also of interest is that the patterns in the letters don't match the clear text in C2, this "suggest" different authors.

Nothing about this legend is "perfectly clear", it is all supposition. I find that "gold dust" mention strange.
Reb's CW theory has no gold dust in the CS inventory. Where would the dust come from and please don't
mention Colorado since everyone agrees no such excursion took place.

This is where treasure yarns break down. They invariably add impossible ingredients the novice does not
investigate or is i*norant of. Tell a group of contemporary adults that you found two pounds of gold dust
in a stream in Iowa and listen to the "wows".
