I would like know what everbody thinks on some m -d they have the vid number to go by and some have icon (ace 250) is one more constant at knowing what it could be you think. i know the better you know you detector :) the better you are at tell what it is and still not alwalys knowing till you dig. but that being said yall have use a lot more M-d over time. what you think i know not the brand but the id thanks the ( highend ones have vid number ) HH :help: :help: :help: :help: :o

I go by sounds but use the VDI on my Xterra 705 when deciding to dig or not. Going back over the item a few times. my VDI # either stable or jumping numbers gives me a good idea of good or garbage.... depends on other variables too, but works good for me! I am glad I have it...

the little 'tab, dime, quarter, etc" that my F2 has... I think are stupid. I never pay attention to them...

Here's how it works. The manufacturer use coins as a reference to calibrate the design of the display. What you see as a ID # or a symbol is the detectors best guess. It really doesn't know what is down there. The detector sends out a signal lets call that 100%. It gets a return signal which is less than 100%. It matches this signal against it's program and displays the result. It's that simple. Our detectors are basically crude compared to what the government has and uses on ships and Sat's. There units, which, are really large in size, use a frequency shift to determine the exact composition of a target, but their cost is beyond the range of most people. Frank

so it seem that vdi wouid helps the most (1)sound then (2)vdi sorry I got it worng VDI the first time i have a beep and dig that cool but looking just like allway thanks (some of have the pic and light up under it )

Shoot, the detector I am currently using doesn't have VDI or anything like that. I like it in a sense that I can trust my ear on the sound rather than visually expect a certain range. But the info from VDI would give me a rough estimate of the type of coin etc..
