Which is best? Silver coins or silver bars?

This is a debate that has no end. Personally, I like silver bullion coins, like Canadian Maples and American Eagles, placed in hard plastic tubes. If nothing else, they will always have face value. Silver rounds are great as well. Frankly, I don't think it matters too much. Buy what you like.

(There seems to be quite a few threads about bullion lately. Maybe it's time TN got a bullion forum? Is bullion considered treasure? What isn't considered treasure? Where should bullion threads be placed? It's mostly coin people who're interested in bullion, but they don't always check the other categories on TN. Is there a bullion forum that I've missed? What about a forum for everything that relates to metal, besides just scrap? hmm....I think I'm asking too many questions. ;D )

Coins are pretty much a different game. Although there is some overlap (old gold and silver coins), people invest in numismatics under different assumptions. And generally, high-grade key-date coins have outperformed bullion, but only over a very long time period. People who like bullion usually rejoin that in a scenario when gold and silver will quickly appreciate in value, numismatic coins will get lost in the chaos and will be marginalized by the high demand for bullion. This happened in 1980 when some rare coins were melted for their silver content. Again, buy what you like.

I have some gold and silver bullion and I will probably
buy it from time to time. However, I enjoy the silver coins
much better. Some coins are truly works of art and I never
get tired looking at them. Most of the investors I have spoken
with go with the coins. I will eventually try and trade in 40%
for gold coins. The 90% and older I will keep.
Thanks for the advice.

I've recently been buying some one ounce silver bars, I've actually been getting some from a dealer who is selling a pile, and for only $13.00 each too.

Scrap silver coin bullion is a good investment, that way you don't pay more numismatically for them.

Outside of whatever I can collect while CRH, I've been on a kick to get rolls of certain coins.

Fiatboy is right, buy what you like. I don't think it matters much, silver is silver, just a personal preference.

I think FB hit the nail on the head. Well said.....

Personally I like the coins although I have bullion as well such as bars & silver eagles. My opinion is the coins are more of a work of art like the design of the Walker which is by far my favorite design.

There is a point where silver coins cross over to have more numismatic value than the silver weight they carry obviously.
