Of the Gold Bugs, the GBII is what you want, though the Pro is pretty good, too. The GBII has the edge for tiny stuff, while the Pro does good on slightly larger stuff, and also is a good unit for coins, etc. Tough choice. You might also look at Whites GMT, which is what I use. They're all good.
Here's a link to some good info....Steve's Guide to Gold Nugget Detectors

Thanks for the link Jim.

The Teknetics G2 is the same innards as the Gold Bug Pro. Both of these would let you also detect relics & coins, as would the Garrett AT Pro. The Garrett AT Gold is for detecting very tiny gold, has threshold & discrimination, has a smaller coil than AT Pro for the stock coil, coils are interchangeable. Best wishes, George (MN)

Of them all, only the Gold Bug 2 was designed exclusively as gold nugget hunter with absolutely no other consideration in mind. The others in the series were designed to have other applications, such as coin or relic hunting. Only the GB2 was exclusively designed for nugget hunting. Period.

You'll have to look hard for one right now as Fisher is out of stock and a new production run has not started yet, according to distributors.

You might want to take a look at the Gold Bug DP. Came out in 2011. I just ordered one and should be here on Monday. It is a multipurpose detector. I live in Florida and am going to all the gold fields out west in June, so I wanted a detector that would be good on gold first and then be good on coins and relics. The DP stands for Duel Processor. I will let you know how it works.

Actually I believe the 'dp' stands for deep penetrating. I could be wrong but the processor is no different on the gold bug dp than it is on the gold bug pro. The only difference is the coil.

If you want an original, PM me. I just picked one up on a trade.

atomicscott; You might be right. Someone mentioned to me that it was duel processor, but now that I went back to the Fisher website, it does mention deep penetrating. Even though I am never wrong, you might be right. Thanks

GB DP or G2... Buy yourself the 5" DD coil for gold, and you've got yourself a great machine.
DP is a Pro to be clear.. G2 isn't as sensitive to very fine gold as the GB Pro but the difference really isn't worth a mention. (But I did anyway)

If you were after a 100% gold machine, the GB 2 is the way to go.. That or a Whites GMT.
Anyway GL mate.

Picked up my GB DP a couple of days ago. Read the book and went outside to practice. Right off the bat I located a quarter at 8". I was running in all metal with the gain up to max because I was over fairly neutral sand. I was also able to pick it up when in disc. mode. Not solid but faint, but still there. So far so good.
