Which coil to use?

I am pretty new, and don't use that machine, so other people will probably be able to give you a better answer. However I do know that most parks tend to be trashy (lots of stuff in the ground, most of it garbage, pulltabs etc). Now this trash can mask good targets. A smaller coil tend to work better in these circumstances, as it will give you a better chance of detecting the good target without trash interfering. For instance Garrett makes a 4 inch sniper coil for use with the ACE 250 in trashy areas.

Hope someone can give you a better answer than I.

So if it is just for trash is the depth the same and all the other readouts the same? Guess I don't get it, the coil is $250 and someone would spend that just to weed out a trash and how does that work? Noise? Reading?

If and when you try to detect a truly filthy, trashy park and find the 9.5 and the 14 unusable, you'll understand why the small coils for trash. They do give up some depth and of course cover less area per swing, but that's why they can pull the goodies out of the trash. My first run with my MXT was in a very trashy park. Started out with the stock 9.5 and within 5 minutes discovered it was nearly impossible to hunt with it. As I bought the machine slightly used with the 4X6DD and the 5.3, I changed to the 4X6 and ended up pulling out quite a few coins from between the pull tabs, bottle caps, pieces of foil and other assorted crap. The difference was like night versus day. Love the 4X6dd shooter coil. My two bits.

The 9.5 and 1400 are for open or cleaner areas and have more depth than the smaller coils, however, in a park or trashy area they are almost worthless because to many targets under the coil at the same time cause detector confusion. Neither of these coils would be considered good nugget hunting coils. You will need the 6X10 for trashy or cluttered parks. The 6X10DD can handle the bad ground where gold is usually found in but most prefer the 4X6DD for hunting gold as it will pick up the small gold.
You will probably find the best all around coil to keep on the MXT is the 6X10DD as it's a good target separator yet big enought to still cover ground. You can change to a bigger or smaller coil from there when conditions merit a change.

I get it on the smaller coil as I have tried parks too and a couple of old building sites with a ton of nails and junk.

So the 9.5, 6x10, etc are the sizes measured? If so what size is my 1400? Appreciate the info.

I have the whites DFX and all the coils are interchangeable with the MXT. If am detecting the beach or a park I use the bigfoot coil ( 4" x 18"), it is good for 6 inch deep targets. I can cover alot of ground and do not spend alot of time recovering my targets that are real deep, plus I do not want to dig deeper than that. Just my three cents worth. Don

ive read the 1400 is very heavy and a few were not happy with the depth, would trade it for a 6x10. the stock coil looks in the ground like a big U where a DD is more like a wipper blade, and handle minerals better. i liked the 4X6 DD on the 6.59 khz whites but had poor depth {4"}, i understand they are deeper on m-6, mxt and dfx

I use the 6X10 almost exclusively on my DFX. I get good depth and as others have mentioned it's great in trash7 areas

I use both the stock coil and the 4x6 DD coil. I use the small one for trashy parks and plan to use it when we go to AZ this Fall to nugget hunt. My dealer said that the 4x6 DD would work to hunt gold. I love that little coil!
