Where's Waldo (silver)?

I read where people are pulling silver coinage out of the ground at their their local park all the time while I can find only clad (mostly pennies, quarters and the occasional dime). My observation is all the parks in my town are recent or have been modernized, etc. All relatively new landscaping...nothing that carries over from the pre-'70s. With one exception, I find most have about 2" of sod with pea gravel underneath...or in the case of tot's lots, fiberboard at an inch. Silver would have been out of circulation well before these parks were built and hence hard to find today. The same applies to the town in general....it is all new developments; the historical section is off limits (rocket city, Alabama).

That's my theory anyhow...and forcing me to look at sites well out of town, if I want to find anything silver or older. I save the parks for practice. ....makes me wonder about all the Mercury dimes being pulled out of the ground on the first hunt. II'm understanding why many have told me of the value behind winter research.

I found an old park in town I missed. Catch is it's been rebuilt on wood fiber base, located adjacent to the largest cemetery in town....and allegedly haunted, of course. I don' need no stinkin' clad...

Check out the older schools and ask a few churches if you can hunt there lands you will have to show them how you dig but most will let you detect if they know your not going to tear up there yards I have an old church I am going to hunt next saturday was built back in 1857, then on sunday I am going back over to my wifes grandpas house he was suppose to burry his coin and cash when he had extra and since he died of a heart attack it is probably still where he burried it. One day Maybe I will find it. Imagine a jar full off late 1800 coins and early 1900 coins. Just hoping there might be some gold there also. LOL who knows... Most of the time, they don't redo the entire park.....usually just the grass and playground. you might want to try the areas surrounding them such as the bushes, woods, or parking strips.
