My dad handed this gun down to me a few years before he passed away. He purchased it for under $100.00 and used it for a wall hanging. Does anyone have any idear where this gun was made and the aproximate age. As you can see in pics it has a fancy hand carving of a animals face with glass eyes and some carving on fore stock. Engraved with a bird dog flushing some birds underneath the hammers. Damascus barrels larger than 20 gauge...might be 12, or 10..16....W. Parkhurst engraved on side. Could this be the maker or who the gun was made for? Is the one hundred dollar value about right for this one?

Hello Undertaker!!
Cool Gun. I'd give ya a hundred bucks for it in a heart beat.

I found this Quote about W. Parkhurst.

"When they were "made" in England, they were manufactured by J.P. Clabrough and co....and they could have gotten it from about a half a dozen actual makers so knowing who actually made it is next to impossible. If it's an English gun, it should be labeled "William Parkhurst"....if it's one of the later Belgian ones (made by Simonis, Janssen and Dumoulin approx 1906-1938), it'll be "Wm. Parkhurst".

Here is the link to the rest of it.

I paid alot more for a gun that is nowhere as good as yours. I am shooting it in my avatar. I would raise your value accordingly after you identify the gun.

I would guess England or Belgium. There were a lot of companies that made them for the American market. I wonder if the carving was done after it was bought? After looking at it again the deer looks like a deer from India, a black buck, I think and with the piece of metal in the stock for initals, it looks like they were carved in there maybe at the factory. Look on top of the barrels or on the side locks for names and take the forearm off. There should be some proof marks on the bottom of the barrels at the breach end. That would help immensley...d2

Parkhurst shotguns were made in England by J.P. Clabrough & Brothers., and in Belgium by Simonis, Janssen & Dumoulin. After 1906 they were all made in Belgium
There was also a Wm Parkhurst who made percussion guns in New Hampshire in the later part of the 1800's

Let me know where to send it.
