I have searched pennies for quite awhile now.I completed my 1959-2007 collection and would like to mainly focus on wheaties. I have tried getting my bank( 4 branches in the area) to sell me as many pennies as they can and usually they only have around 10-30$ worth of pennies. I would like to order around $500-$1000 but they either tell me they can't give me their 50$ bags that they have in the back or they only give me whatever they have upfront from every teller. How do I convince my bank to order pennies for me from the Fed reserve bank or from the armoured company? Also its a waste of time to put ALL those pennies back in the rolls. Do you guys just dump them in a free coin-counting machine? If so how does the whole process work i.e money back in bills or credit. Please explain

Thanks

How do you buy coin machine bags? Please explain as I really want to save on time and gain on finding the 'keepers'. Also why do people use Ryedale(especially when it sells at $600 on ebay) to collect copper? Do people actually buy copper penny rolls? What do i search for on ebay to see some examples..

Thanks guys

when the bank was asking to give you there 50 dollar bags.
That also saves them money.
I Own a Ryedale machine I Love mine. Im sorting currently 1000+ a week.
Hes got a different model that sale for 300 the 600 one is the big nice unit.
The Market for copper pennies is developing.
Yes people are buying copper pennies for spot price as crazy as it sounds because you cant melt them currently.

My Goal is 100,000 wheats.

Happy hunting,
CC

"when the bank was asking to give you there 50 dollar bags."

What do you mean when the bank was asking you? Can I call an armoured service company and order pennies through them or do I have to talk to my branch manager and convince him to order $200+ in pennies?

I do use a free coin counting machine at my CU. You just put the coins in the machine and it prints out a receipt. I take it to the teller for cash or deposit. The only problem with it is that it doesn't take long to fill up the machine. Then you have to wait on a (ususally rude) teller to stop what she is doing to help you. I fill the machine almost every time I go in, so I am sure the tellers all probably hate me. But that is why you don't get your coins at your dump bank. Good Luck!

Hi fellow penny searcher!
I think you may be getting confused. The bank offered to sell you their $50 bags. Those are probably the bags that came off the coin counter when it gets full. Those are the ones you should be buying! I wish my bank would sell me their's. You will have a better chance of finding more wheaties that way.

Actually, if you have the right bank your odds of finding more wheaties will be better with bags. With the wrong bank the odds will actually be worse. Same as in business, its all about location (and this case customers). Certain banks will have a higher percentage of wheaties. Its all based upon who cashes in there.

I actually do better from boxes (which come from random locations) than from bags (which come from specific banks). But for me the bags are more economical (less gas) and easier to get without all the hassle and dirty looks. They also allow me to use all the banks I used to get boxes from as dump banks so it all works out in the end.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just wish that as a 20-year old, bank employee's wouldnt turn me down for bags of pennies, when they would let someone older buy them without the questions, looks and all that. Im going to see if my bank and their branches have a coin counting machine that I can dump my coins into. That would be step 1 for me and it would sure save alot of precious time spent rolling those pennies back. What about armoured service companies?Anyone ever dealt directly with them? Any tips?

Thanks

Don't worry about it, Misiek. I'm 22 and I get weird looks and tons of questions even when I ask for even 10-20 or so rolls of pennies. Just go in there and be confident when talking to the tellers. Tell them exactly what you're doing and why you want so many coins. The main thing to realize is that they CANNOT tell you no if you ask for rolls unless for some reason they actually don't have that many on hand. Next time you go into your bank, ask them to order a box of pennies for you. Remember, they can't tell you no. You are their customer and you are someone who keeps their bank going by having an account there. If you want $25 worth of pennies, then its your right to get $25 in pennies. However, I can understand them questioning you when you want bags off the coin counter because of the possibility of the count being wrong. Some banks have different policies on bags and you might have to develop a good relationship with one of the tellers in order to get bags. Just remember that the count in bags can be off and you're taking a risk when you get a bag.
