I guess I am way out of touch, but i bought the kids some coin albums, and went to the bank to get a few rolls to get them started. No problem with nickles, dimes or quarters, or even dollars (if you count 1979 "Carter Quarters" and 2000 Sacs). But when I try to find a couple rolls of halves, the tellers look at me as if I asked for 3 dollar bills. Does anyone know where to get a few rolls of halves for, oh, I don't know, ABOUT 50 CENTS FOR EACH COIN?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

All I can say IF you Can't Get To the Casinos where 90% of them are Being Hoarded for the Slots, Try another Bank, Sorry.

Banks very rarely have ROLES of halfs, you just have to try different banks and ask them if they have any halfs. Because, I use to do it alot. Never found a bank with them rolled, they usually only have around 2-3 actuall halfs anyway.

Jeff hit it on the $$!!

The Casinos have them all! I know because that's what I play when I go (.50 cent slots)! ;D

I find silvers almost every time too (found 5 last week)!

Try the bank branches inside grocery stores such as meijer, kroger, marsh, payless. The halfs get spent at the end of the month at the store and deposited in the bank branch and sit there until the branch has $100 worth and sends them to the central banks. They are very happy to get rid of them because they have to be lifted and counted regularly. I've had the ladies flag me down when i go in the store without stopping to tell me that they have some rolls they want to get rid of. I usually at least see how many they have and promise to stop by on my way out. exanimo, ss

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try the grocery store "banks" next time I go there.

As for the casinos, I am not sure the ones around here use real coins, maybe tokens. I don't play the slots normally, but the last time I went the slots wanted paper money. I don't play the slots, since I can't ever figure out why I won or lost on the new "20x", "10 lines at once" ones. I need the one with 3 reels and cherries and oranges, lol.

Anyway, I did have a happy ending. I called a new bank in the area, a small branch of BOA next to a shopping center, thinking they may get some from the local stores. A guy named Erik answered, and said he was a coin collector himself, and always kept a supply of halves on hand. When I told him it was for the kids, he mentioned he also had a bunch of $2 bills. I went in and got a 20 rolls of Kennedys, and 20, $2s. We went through the halves, and had fun nearly filling the 1970 and 1990s in the books. Also found a Sac dollar and a quarter in the rolls, so came out 25 cents ahead. There were NO pre 1971 coins, so these 10 rolls had been mined for silver. But, we had a strange find, a 1986 S Kenedy half. The "S" mints are all proofs, and it DID have the mirror finish, but was a bit scuffed up. Wonder how that found it's way out of the plastic case?

If you can't find any halves at the banks in your city or town. Just travel a little outside of town to a smaller town they should have some there.

Keep @ it and HH!!!

A few years ago, I went to purchase 4 rolls of half's at the bank to use for a club coin hunt.
The teller handed me two rolls and said she would have to look around for two more. She came back and handed me two more rolls. I gave her the $40 and went to the car. When I opened the rolls, I found out that the last two rolls she gave me were all 90% silver with a few Franklin's and a Walking Lib.

I buy boxes ($500) from my bank regularly, but they special order them for me. Another option is every time you go to a convenience store, ask the folks there if they have any.
