I've had a NJ Copper on my wish list for a log time. Since it seems like everytime I post that I really want to find a certain item it usually happens in the next few months. So here it goes....I really want to find a NJ Copper. Lets see what happens.

Hell, someone in Canada just posted that they found one...there has to be one out there for me.

Happy Hunting

NJ

PS I'll also take a GW button with or in place of the NJ Copper...

You're in a better place to get one than I am  Try finding one in Bergen county. Heck, even Passaic county. Either most places were hunted to death years ago, the locale is off limits due to being deemed historical/federal land or the original spot has been done over or they built a 7-11 on top of it :laughing7: :BangHead: :spam4: Go South young man :sign13: All the action is Tom's River and Southward.

I'm still thrilled pulling a merc or a barber up in these parts :tongue3: :laughing9: :laughing7:

Still some action as you know in Newark & some of the less 'desirable' areas though. But, gotta get there at the crack of dawn before the riff-raff wakes up from their Colt 45/Crack induced slumbers  :laughing7:

Have you tried getting permission on any private older homes up by you?

I've hunteed that park up in Lyndhurst along the river but only found a few silver coins. I have not tried knocking on doors in the area. I currently have more sites to hunt then time to hunt them plus I try not to drive too far to detect. More time on the road - the less time to actually detect.

Good luck

NJ

Finding a NJ copper can be perplexing living in NJ. I believe I went about two years of woods/field hunting (7 years of hunting though)before I found my first one in 1986, but then not another one till 1988 and third one in 1990, but did not find my 4th one till 1997! There were other state colonials found in-between but the NJ coppers just hid from me for almost a 7 year span between #3 and #4. Now this year I found 5 in a two month period, giving me 20 total, so go figure....
On the other hand it took my son almost 17 years or so of hunting to find his first one, and still he only has three, but he has many more CT coppers than I do. So you just never know.
I guess some luck involved and location location location. Hopefully for you a NJ will be in your future and even Neil's future! :icon_thumright:

Tried it a few times, but, being since I'm in a urban area people tend to have their suspicions up from the get-go. Imagine knocking on someones door in Rutherford & asking them to search their property. The look at you like you have 3 heads. :laughing7: I'd have a better chance of going to the moon. If I drive to some of the more rural areas where there are farms & things of that nature (say 30 miles away or so), folks tend to be a bit more easygoing & open.

I have some spots, but, I picked them over pretty good through the past few years. Not complaining though. I've managed a 2 cent piece, 2 half reales, 2 seateds (one a CC), a nice crotal bell or two, numerous old relics (my girl doesn't call them relics though - just junk :tongue3:), as well as the usual indians, barbers, mercs and such fare. Most of the above was just from this year alone. Just gotta try a zillion sites before one 'hits'.

As I said, no complaints. Being since I'm such an addict though (I try & get out 2 or 3 times per week), it's tough to find enough spots to feed my insatiable appetite.

I still have a honeyhole or two left though  :laughing7:

By the way, I happen to live within walking distance of '"that park you hunted in Lyndhurst". You sure don't leave much behind, do you?! :tongue3: :laughing7: Aside from the occasional merc, silver rosie or buff, haven't found much in my town. Which is perplexing because...

While Lyndhurst itself only dates back to the early 1900's, prior to that, the entire area was all farmland - as was much of NJ. All of Bergen county was owned by maybe 10 or 15 affluent families that had large farms & land.

So, one would think the occasional copper would pop-up, but no.

My buddy did manage to find a King George Half Penny at a park in Nutley, but, wouldn't you know, they wound up doing the entire park over a few years later :BangHead:

Thought you looked familiar, NJ. Now I remember, I saw you down at the Regal Beagle last week :laughing7: :tongue3:

P.S - Don't hog all the pretzels this time - leave some for me :icon_sunny:

P.P.S. - Were you more of a Janet fan or a Chrissy fan?

Chrissy...Janet did nothing for a teenage N.J.THer..I guess that is why I married a blonde.

Oops, meant to say Chrissy  More of a Janet fan myself. Prefer brunettes. I also like the dark, exotic type. Sofia Vergara, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, a young Sophia Loren...you get the picture

We need to go out & pillage hunt together sometime :laughing7:

P.S. - For coins...not women. You sure have a dirty mind :laughing9:
