where is a good place in california

Kid; yeah..East of Shanon or Back country east of San Ardo ? When I think of central Ca I emply SF south to LA,, areas I know somthing about..open grass land is best..Woods & trees are too dificult unless you've seen/heard them come in..They are noisy, fluttering in flight and are best detected in daytime..
