I found this button yesterday at a mid 1800s site. I couldn't tell what it was until I cleaned it using electrolysis. I think I remember seeing something like this posted here a while back. At first I thought it was a house on a hill but a friend suggested that it may be a fort instead.
The back was full of crud but I think there is loop visible now. It may have been iron or tin backed.

It looks like this kind of block house fort, look carefully it is flying a pennant flag on top, ft gaines.webp

I don't know if this is considered a pennant or not. It is a vertical bar. If this picture is not good enough I will take one tomorrow in natural light without flash.

That would be really neat. It would be my first handmade one and I would put it up there with any Yankee button but still not up to a Confederate one!:laughing7:

That picture is actually the one I think my button may take after. That is Ft. Gaines in Eufaula, Al. about 50 miles from here.

It is hard to see but there is a pennant flying to the left of the vertical bar. You can barely see it in the first picture. Also, the wavy lines on the left side of the button are an American flag flying from a flag pole. This button is getting more intereting to me.
