The Problem Is, It depends on Where you Live.

Here in My area, Public Parks are open without Permission.

But their are some Areas where, it seems "Public" Means "Elected Officials"

What state are you in? Surely there is others in the forum in your state.Check the web for state and county park laws on MDing.

Around here, schools are usually open for hunting unless totally fenced in (I have never had a problem) most parks, excluding: national parks, state parks vary, but here you can get permission from the gate (sometimes) city parks where they haven't posted signs that say it's prohibited, beaches from the bottom of the dune to the low tide line (in most areas here). This is no way a complete or exact list. There are unfortunately lots of exceptions, and this is just my experience for my area (Tampa Fla) Good luck! HH omnicognic 8)

Hey Rich, These guys are right about it being different eveywhere. Public schools are OK, most city parks are, and in my area state parks require a special permit!!! If you are unsure, call the local town hall or office to be safe. Remember to always act in our best interest as MD'ers!!!!!!
Good Luck

I agree with Greg. If you are unsure, please ask the proper authorities. Getting busted for hunting in a restricted area is not only bad for you, but bad for the hobby. We all want to continue to hunt our favorite places and get access to new ones.

I am sure you will do fine and make a fine example of our hobby. Good luck and hope you make some great finds! Make sure to keep us informed on how you are doing :D

Thanks for the responses folks! Much appreciated and it all makes sense. I think. But from whom do you ask permission to scan a torn up sidewalk when there are no construction workers around?

I'm in a small town north of Nashville, TN.

around here sidewalk is the cities property,,, although alot of homeowners think it belongs to them,,,,,,
