Where do i start?

Hello ive obtained an interest in mining quartz veins( considering they made up most of the georgia gold rush)
The problem is i dont know where to start
As in placer mining i know to look in the bends but here...
How the crap do you know where to dig
Any help appreciated, heavy pans

first is to know what to look for as there are different kinds of quartz. take a look at dustedyou's thread on identifying rocks, its about the 3rd or 4th one down. Then just look for quartz outcroppings. I'm pretty new at this too, but that should get you started.

Hey Kiddo,read the mining reports from your state.Locate the areas that had hardrock quartz mining..get permission if needed from property owners and look for veins,stringers of quartz.All veins do not carry gold.Your used to creek beds so look in the bedrock for veins and follow them up the hillsides,or just check the hillsides for quartz float and scratch around.You might want to read this quickly written paper.....Lode Gold Prospecting.
