When to find a new bank for halves

Ok....I've been on the track to find silver. When I first started I was getting a few per box. Now I'm on box 13 & 14. 1 through 11 skunk, 12 gave me one 40%er, 13 & 14 both skunk.

Half of the boxes were from the same place the rest were from 2 other banks. The 40% came from the main batch of boxes.

Is it time for me to find new sources? Is Michigan dry for halves?

Just dont know.

Keep chugging along- If the bank has never produced, maybe look elsewhere. If it has produced, just plow through the skunks.

My good banks put numbers up that would impress anyone... Then they put up 10-20 boxes that would make you think twice about this hobby. Then once you start doubting them... 30-40 boxes of greatness.

Michigan is pretty dry for halves. In my last 11 boxes I have only gotten 4 40%ers. One of those was a 76-s silver impaired proof that was marked, so another searcher thought it was clad and dumped it. When I started getting boxes a year and a half ago, I found silver in almost every box. Now most of my silver finds are from teller trays and CWRs.

What portion of the state are you in?

There is just no way of predicting where the silver will show up as there is no way to predict where the silver will be dumped in the first place. Basically, we that order boxes are waiting for silver to be dumped somewhere, picked up by the coin courier service to be re-rolled/boxed, and then hopefully we get at least some of that silver in the boxes that we order. If little to no silver gets dumped into your system, then there is little to no silver for you to find.

Maybe massive CRHer(s) is/are "polluting" your system. Maybe you've just been unlucky. Maybe very little silver has been dumped in your area. There is no way to know for sure that I am aware of.

That dream box may well show up on your next order. It might show up after 100 straight skunk boxes. It might never show up. One thing for sure is that 14 boxes is a TINY sample size. My first 11 boxes produced exactly 1 40%er (total, not per box). Box #12 was pretty good, then if I remember correctly I soon had skunk streaks of 10, 8, and 12 broken by boxes that contained 1 lonely 40%er. Personally, I would have to try ~50 boxes at least before I gave up.

The way I see it, you can either continue on as you've been doing, find new sources, or quit. The only guarantee in this hobby is that you won't find any silver if you aren't looking for it. Most of us have to sometimes endure some fairly lengthy streaks of finding little to nothing - especially when searching halves.

A little advise from somebody who is in the same boat as you...

I only order half dollars from one bank. I had a 30 box skunk streak of halves from Mid-august up until mid-January. Keep at it. My boxes seem to be showing some improvement... the skunk streak finally ended. HH
