Went back to the old farm site tonight with my Dad. They mowed the grass nice and short so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get back there asap! And since my Dad keeps scoring big there, and my Brother recently nabbed some goodies there, it only makes sense that the place is producing. The last couple times I've been there I've just found relics... well... tonight was crazy awexome!

I started concentrating on the front area where my Dad and Brother and I have been finding quite a bit of goodies. I hit a nice little high tone that wasn't completely solid, but it was good enough to pop a plug and have a look.

Turned out to be a 1945 mercury dime on edge at about 5".

Then off to the side of that hole I popped out the 1926 buffalo nickel! These were my first two digs and I thought this could be the beginning of a great night, or it's going to be a long night digging a bunch of junk trying to make it a two silver day.

Well not more than 5 feet away I popped out another mercury dime, this time a 1938-d, all within the first 10 minutes of being there. Now I was feeling lucky!

I continued on my path and hit another semi high tone. It was reading 12-39. Out popped the tiniest silver ring I've ever dug. NOW I WAS BUZZIN'!! This area was heavily pounded by all three of us and here I am just going slow and wiggling out some really sweet digs like they were just placed there yesterday. I don't know how to explain it, but I never heard these tones in this area before.

At this point it started to drizzle, and it got to the point that I dug my rain coat out of my trunk and wrapped up my control housing with saran wrap. It pays to be prepared! Read on!

After doubling back through my hot spot and finding the '55-d wheatie next to a large piece of iron, I made my way PAST the yellow jacket nest in the ground that kept me from passing the front walk way last time along the edge of the driveway. I had scanned the right side pretty well, but not the left yet.

Immediately upon sticking my coil right up in the corner of the left side of the front walkway as it meets the driveway, bam! high quarter tone! Wiggling around it I felt like it was a great signal, but it had some weirdness to it that made me not get my hopes up. When I dig down in the soil, it was more like rocks, and lot of them. Probing the hole sounded GREAT at about 5". Now I was excited. I wiped a little bit of dirt and rocks away at a time, and eventually a silver rim popped out. It was definitely bigger than a dime! Ants were everywhere, all over my silver coin and all up my hand and arm.

Out popped the dateless Denver mint SLQ! My 3rd for the year :headbang:

At this point the rain ceased and the sun was back. Time to take off the rain gear!

After a while scanning that left side of the walkway, and being ALL UP IN the bushes, I finally got a tone that was nice and repeatable from all angles. The numbers on the E-Trac were saying 01-34 and then 12-35. When I opened the plug, I had the target right at the bottom... 5" and out came the smallest ring I'd every seen. It was really dirty, and caked with corrosion. What was weird, is that upon looking at it and wiggling it a little bit, it was actually one ring inside another!! These are the GOLD rings pictured below! I'm pretty sure they are not gold plated, as I see no signs of plating despite the bad corrosion that was over them. The round ring was inside the engraved 'A' ring, like they fell right off of the tiniest finger in the world, together. After much cleaning the 'A' ring has [GH] stamped on it, and the other ring has a nice 'S' followed by "5BRCC 14K", or something like that. 14K? Hell, I'll take it! First gold for the year comes in two's!

Great group of finds Brett. Goes to show that you go over the same area multiple times and still find stuff if you slow down and approach from different directions. Congratulations! :hello2:

I can't believe the week you have had. Maybe you should only hunt 1/2 a day a month so the rest of us can find something!!
Very nice.

Great hunt, Brett! Nice assortment, too. We've got to get together for a hunt sometime soon dude, it's been too long.

I was just asking Kermit about you today. And after that dry hunting I was thinking I should really get into the water this year too. Either way it would be good to get out again tomorrow morning if you have any ideas. I know Kermit and Mary were thinking of another hunt tomorrow as well. I haven't really researched many sites up by you guys, but chicago parks always work for me. If you have any ideas, let me know.
