when do you usually go detect?

Summer time,,, I usually get out early in the morn'n to try and beat the heat, but I do go back out in the evening, every now & then... Winter time, I usually go whenever I can...
Good luck & Happy hunting~

I've been going every nite at 7:00 till sunset but I'll have to go alittle earlier cause it's getting dark sooner.

Seasonally, I am guessing that here might be around April to October. If I am lucky, I might get through November. Then, I have seen the grass growing green on Christmas.

As for time of day, I mainly try to avoid crowds and kids especially. It is getting more and more difficult now with days getting shorter but being that evenings are the easiest time for me to get out, that would put me out, around 7pm on most evenings. I have had OK luck going to play lots and the beach around 6:30p or 7. Parents are getting home from work. Kids are having dinner. Crowds are usually easing on the beach by 8p and most play lots are deserted around when I get going. However, there are the occasional kids that seem to come up with their parents to the Tot Lots. I figure after dinner, some neighborhood parents might take the kids to the park for about half hour before getting them ready for bed. Right now I have noticed that to be around 7:30 to almost 8pm.

Especially on week nights, people seem to go to the beach for a picnic dinner or something, linger and mingle for a little and seem to head off the beach around 8. The other night, that left me with another half hour before it was too dark to see what I was finding. But, as I said, days are getting shorter and it will probably be dark by 7 soon. So, I am going to have to adjust.

I do know that after Labor Day, the beaches close. Not that you can't go there but that there are no life guards or attendants. Especially during the week. Also, I will be able to get down to the swimming beach without having to have a pass or sticker on my car. I figure, after kids go back to school, I will try and hit the beaches middle of the afternoon if I can. Wait till after the lunch time people who take their lunches down there and stroll by the water.

Another good time that I have tried is sunrise to about 8:30am. The only people out at that time are a few joggers or walkers. Kids don't usually get out till later and most of them will be in schoo soonl. I am figuring that, by the times that baby sitters, grandmas, nannies and the mothers, get the younger kids up, dressed, fed... Spouses or themselves to work, Grandma or the Nanny or whomever will probably not get the kids out to the parks till, at least 9am. Problem though, as can be seen by my writinng this now, It is about 4am and I am more of a night person. Probably going to head to bed pretty quick. Don't know that I can push myself another 4 or 5 hours here. So. early mornings are usually pretty tough going for me. I hate Mornings..... ;D

While the weather is hot I am on the turf just before sunrise. I often have to use my backlight to see what I am doing for the first 15 minutes or so. I usually am in by 9:30 AM or about 2 to 3 hours of hunting time. I have gone out a few times just before dark if the weather has cooled off a bit but it has stayed hot on up until after dark the last few weeks. In the winter time I usually wait until the sun has a chance to warm things up a bit, usually about 1:00 PM and hunt until about 4:00 PM, then it's home before rush hour traffic gets too bad. Luckily we have several days during the winter when it gets up into the 60s and 70s which gives me longer to hunt. We usually only get snow about 3 times during the winter and it don't stay but a day or two and after the slush and mud dries up a bit I am back at it. Laying off a full week really gets me grumpy so my wife prays for good weather! JIM
