Dad was the victor of this battle. Dad found 10 Wheats (oldest 1912, it may be 1918 but I am going with 1912) Tanner found only 3 common Wheats (oldest 1947). He had the help of 2 King Georges but could not come up with any more. Including the 2 King Georges he found 57 Canadian cents in a $25.00 box.

3 Wheats is the lowest number we have ever found except for a box I once had that was all customer rolls and 100% copper and 0 Wheats.

wow, 3 in 1 box is just incredibly below average, was Tanner's box mostly new pennies?

I agree, the photo makes it look like a 1914... If only it had a D mintmark :laughing9:

Yeah, 3 wheats is a pretty disappointing box.

The "1912" kind of looks to be a 1914 on my part, but I don't have the coin in hand so I can't tell that much. You have won the battle but not the war! VIVA LA TANNER :icon_thumright:

EDIT: I used my picture editor, and revamped the picture...

you seem to get a lot of king george canadian pennies in your area, I am just wondering how many canadian pennies you average per box? Here, 800 miles south of canada, I average 6-10 per box. I have gotten a few king georges and a 1929 canadian penny.

Tanner and I have only counted Canadians twice getting 64 and this box 57. My banks coin machine seems to let me return 95% of them so I release them back into the wild.

I will agree and go with the 1914 on the penny date.

Tanners Penny Box had a wide variety of dates. Just not that many wheats.
