A Celtic gold stater

1617 LEGIBLE Gold 8 Potosí, Potosi began dating that year after after a huge scandel ... job of assayer was auctioned to highest bidder... The date is on the obverse, because of shape of a cob, the date is rarely legible.
Seen several Silver... but never a gold... if it even exists.

OR 1 reale Rincon ... one was found on the Atocha... valued in excess of $200,000..... IN 1988 !!!

Since I was a kid, the obligatory 1909-s VDB cent. Many opportunities to purchase one over the years, just yet to pull the trigger. I dont know what I am waiting for, maybe I will dig one up?

I would certainly love to have that Pine Tree shilling, but if I had to go for one coin it would probably be a VF or better 1944 steel nickle. Prestige!

Any 20 $ denomination American gold coin !!

All of your dream coins were on my larger list. Ok, well not the Celtic but it sure is now! What an amazing list so far!

-Happy Hunting!

In Australia it would have to be the Holey Dollar , up until 1813 Aust had none of its own currency then in 1813 New South Wales Governor Macquarie imported 40,000 Spanish 8 Reale coins , these were restamped and the center punched out to make a second coin the 15c " dump " . Recently a Holey Dollar sold at auction for $460,000 Aus , the dumps can bring in excess of $30,000 Aus .
Other notables would be the 1852 Adelaide Pound with die crack ( Gold ) , 1930 penny ( only 1600 minted and released by mistake ) and Any Gold Sovereign ..cheers Mick

1893 S Morgan Silver Dollar in MS4 or better. That would be enough for me.. :icon_thumright:

Oregon Territorial $10 Gold piece.... I guess I would be ok with the $5 version... LOL

Well, I have been fortunate enough to cross a lot of my dream coins off the want list: 1893-s & 1889-cc Morgans, 1916-d Merc, 1937-d 3 legged Buffalo, 1955 dbl die, 1922, & 1909-s vdb Lincoln cents, among others. Although there are more valuable coins out there, there aren't too many more rare than the 1969-s dbl die Lincoln. Only about 30-40 known (maybe). And since I started collecting coins with Lincolns (like most), that's the one I'd love to get my hands on.

These are relatively common. They can be had for $500 if you shop around. If you really want one, I would say go for it. Very obtainable "dream coin".

Just got this one from a local show. A little more than $500, tho, unless you want a slick Good-4. I traded my VF-35 and a little cash for this XF-40. There are plenty 09S VDBs out there to buy, just gotta open your wallet. The odds of pulling one from the ground I would say is very near impossible.

The CAC/PCGS combo is deadly. Nice coin!

"The odds of pulling one from the ground I would say is very near impossible." Nothing truer could be said, and even MORE impossible to get one in decent shape! :dontknow:
