What's your silver-to-wheat cent ratio?

When I first started detecting in the late 80's my ratio was about 3 wheats to 1 silver. Then, for a long time it was about 10 to 1. Lately though, it has been running about 20 maybe 25 to 1. I mainly hunt older houses and house sites.

I suspect it is due to increased competition. It seems like everyone and their uncle have a detector now. I can't imagine what else it could be. Thoughts anyone??

This is an interesting question. I have been detecting with an AT-Pro since April of this year. My ratio of wheats to silver is 25 to 4. I'll be curious to see where things stand at the end of the year. HH

That's pretty darn good......a little better than 6 wheats for each silver. It's been quite a while since I have had that kind of ratio. Thanks for the input.

so far this year...20 wheats to 9 silvers

This year, mine is around 5 wheats per one silver

First year so I have them all, 14 Wheats to 1 silver, since March 17th

A quick Est, 25-1

So far this year I have found 223 wheats and 62 silver coins, so a ratio of about 4 to 1.

I've been searching for 4-5 months and have yet to find a silver coin but have found 6 wheats. 3 in one spot and three in another. I searched a camp yard this weekend and found one half dollar and probably 20-25 pennies. I would think that with all those pennies there would be more than one different coin. I'm wondering why I didn't even find a modern dime or nickel. It was my first half though :-)

my ratio over the past 8 or 10 years has been about 15 to 1. I suspect this would reflect the ratio of pennys to silver coins that were in circulation during the time they were lost, or more presisly the ratio of pennys to silvers carried. There may be some skew in that statistic due to the possibility that because pennys are more organic in color, they are more camoflaged, and less likely to be seen than a silver coin after being dropped. Keep in mind that this is just me speculating. As for as more hunting pressure reducing the silver coins at a faster rate than wheat pennys, you would think this would not matter that much. especially on dimes. They are the same size, shape, and aproximate conductivity as a wheat penny. Detectorist are not cherry picking the dimes and leaving the wheatys behind? However there could be a reduction rate higher for quarters, simply because they are easier to find. Just my two wheatys. Michael

I have found about 25 wheats and 3 silvers in my yard. About 50 or so more wheats at parks but no silver aside from my yard.

for the month of june I went 26 wheats to 7 silver my silvers were 4 dimes, a quarter, a pendant, a small ring
