I'd probably call that a broken nutting stone..just the fact that the "polish" or wear looks the same on all surfaces... did you find it in moving water or where it may have been polished by water for a long time?
If so that would explain that.

I found it in a wet weather conveyance it only runs when it floods this was with it thanks I was wondering what exactly it was it caught my eye

Mabey a knife.

Thanks boss I been finding to many heartbreakers on my blades and points lately

Does the flaking favor one side on the "back"?

It sure does and this one does too right sides when facing myself

Sorry on the black one it favors the same sides

That's a good indication of a blade and not a projectile on pieces like that.
Not a bevel just flaking.

That looks like another one of those large numerous quarry type pieces.
It's hard to say with alot of them but it would be my guess that alot were used for many tasks including chopping and cutting roots to clear more overburden away to get at the stone.

Here's my thoughts and tell me what you think the first picture is a Dover flint quarry blank . This is how this material comes apart and they say that's why it was a chosen material for long blades . This looks like with the haft a brand new never used ax or Celt ready for use never damaged or sharpened .

Looks almost like the beginning of a tablet.
Check this broken piece from an Adena site in southern Ohio.

Looks like an axe or blade to me. From my understanding blanks would not have a sharp edge. They were smooth rather than jagged to comfortably transport from quarry to campsite. What I've read.

Not the last photo..
There is no way the item he is asking about.."the rectangle"
Is an axe or blade.
He was only using the last photo as an example of what a normal large flake looks like.

The last photo is a quarry blank it is how Dover flint comes apart in sheets and here where I live there camps were at the quarry sites they had fresh water and plenty of food sources every creek in my county is a flint mine . I have not been in one creek where I haven't found mined flint everywhere in it .
